Nancy Carmichael was a dedicated nurse who is greatly loved and missed. She graduated as an RN in the 1950s from Harrisburg Hospital School of Nursing and went on to work in the hospital’s labor and delivery department before marrying and starting a family. Later in life, Nancy volunteered with the Upper Allen Ambulance Association as an EMT, then worked at Gaudenzia and Caron Hospital in the field of addiction. Nancy’s husband, Sam Carmichael, also had an esteemed career in nursing and served as the nursing supervisor at Harrisburg State Hospital for decades. Their children continued Nancy and Sam’s commitment to patient care: their daughter is an RN at Wellspan Trauma Center, and their son, Rex Carmichael, graduated from the second paramedic class in central Pennsylvania.
