Alumni Association Scholarship of the Former Abington Memorial Hospital Dixon School of Nursing Scholarship

The Abington Alumni Association Scholarship Fund provides for scholarships directed towards the individual pursuing their nursing career at baccalaureate level.

The Abington Alumni Association Scholarship Fund provides for scholarships directed towards the individual pursuing their nursing career at the baccalaureate level.

Criteria

  1. The applicant must attend an accredited baccalaureate nursing program or an RN-BSN program in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
    • A high school student must be a matriculated undergraduate nursing student in the fall of the year the award is given.
    • A baccalaureate student must be in his/her sophomore or junior year of a nursing program in May when the application is made.
    • An RN-to-BSN-completion student must have been accepted into a degree-completion program.
    • Applicants who have a non-nursing degree must be accepted into a basic RN-BSN program at the time of submitting a scholarship application.

    2. Applicants who are currently students enrolled in nursing prelicensure programs are highly encouraged to be a member of the Student Nurses Association of Pennsylvania (SNAP) and/or the National Student Nurses Association (NSNA). Applicants who are RN’s are required to become a member of the Pennsylvania State Nurses Association (PSNA).

    3. Students are required to demonstrate financial need by providing all federal and state grant(s) and loan(s), and any formal documentation of need (letter from financial aid officer/ex: work-study).

    4. Previous recipients of this scholarship are not eligible to apply.

    5. If the applicant is a proven direct relative of a graduate of the Abington Memorial Hospital Dixon School of Nursing presents an application and findings are equal; that individual should be given credit for that factor. This graduate can be confirmed by contacting Thomas Jefferson School of Nursing Registrar, 901 Walnut Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 19107. This confirmation will be the responsibility of this applicant.

How to Apply

Applications must be accompanied by:

  • An official transcript of most recent grades (Fall Semester);
  • Two letters of reference on official letterhead, with at least one being an academic contact (letters should describe the applicant’s scholastic abilities, leadership qualities, and community service)
  • Completed essays
  • Submit a high-resolution (minimum 300 dpi – JPEG format) professional headshot for publicity use by PSNA/NFP
    (NOTE: selfies or phone camera photos are not acceptable)

The application can only be submitted via the website (application form below).

The application deadline is March 30th every year.

Post Award Requirements

  1. Within one month after the award, recipients must agree to send a thank you note or video to NFP’s board of trustees (c/o NFP) for NFP promotional purposes
  2. Scholarship recipients are asked to express their gratitude through one or more of the following means to advance the nursing profession:
    1. Volunteering service to NFP
    2. Contributing to the vision of NFP (To Ensure Nurses for Tomorrow),
    3. Making an unrestricted financial gift to NFP and/or otherwise ensuring the perpetuity of NFP.
  3. Upon graduation, provide NFP with your year of graduation and updated contact information. This will be used by NFP when sending invitations and information.
  4. On an ongoing basis, provide voluntary submission of published articles and other professional works for use in PSNA/NFP publications and publicity.
