Florence (Madden) Grady-Fasick
Endowment
Continuing A Legacy of Generosity and Kindness
Florence (Madden) Grady-Fasick was a dedicated, caring nursing professional who was committed to helping others.
As a young student, Florence nearly left nursing school because of financial concerns, until a generous physician offered to assist with the financial support she needed to complete her studies. After graduating in 1931 from South Baltimore General Hospital’s School of Nursing, she served five years in psychiatric nursing; she then returned to General Hospital as assistant director of nursing. In 1948, Florence and her husband, Thomas Grady, settled in Camp Hill with their daughter, Nancy (who also became a nurse but preceded her mother in death). Florence held positions at Harrisburg Hospital and the Visiting Nurse Association of Harrisburg.
After retiring in 1973, Florence served on boards such as the Rheumatoid Arthritis Foundation and the American Association of University Women. She and her second husband, Hamlin Fasick, lived in Mechanicsburg senior living community where friends could find her playing jazz on the lobby piano. Florence died in 2012 at the age of 101.
In honor of the kindness extended to her while she was a student, Florence established this endowment and created a legacy of support and generosity for future nursing students.
