Evelyn Benson Leadership Endowment

General Information

The NFP’s Evelyn Benson Nurse Leadership Scholarship provides scholarships in support of students demonstrating leadership skills in their pursuit of a nursing degree. Funds are for full-time nursing students in their third or fourth year of an accredited BSN, MSN, or doctoral program in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

All scholarship application forms, essays, and letters of reference will be maintained in a private and confidential manner.

Applicant Eligibility Criteria

1. Applicants must be full-time nursing students in their third or fourth year of an accredited BSN, MSN, or doctoral program in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

2. Membership in the Student Nurses Association of Pennsylvania (SNAP) and/or the National Student Nurses Association (NSNA) is highly recommended for those applicants who are currently enrolled in nursing pre-licensure programs. Member in the Pennsylvania State Nurses Association (PSNA) is required for applicants who are currently RNs.

3. Applicants should have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA.

4. Applicants are required to attest to their financial need by providing information about all federal and state grant(s) and loan(s), as well as any formal documentation which demonstrates the need (for example, a letter from financial aid officer regarding work-study).

5. Previous recipients of an NFP scholarship are not eligible to apply.

6. Applicants may only apply to one NFP scholarship per calendar year, excluding the Jack E. Barger, Sr. Memorial Nursing Scholarship.

How to Apply

  1. Complete the required application form in its entirety.
  2. Provide all required accompanying documentation:
    • Official transcript of most recent grades
    • Two letters of reference on official letterhead. At least one letter must be an academic contact. All letters should describe the applicant’s scholastic abilities, leadership qualities, and community service.
    • Completed essays
    • A high-resolution (minimum 300 dpi – JPG format) headshot of the applicant in professional attire for publicity use by PSNA/NFP. (NOTE: Selfies and low-resolution cell phone photos are not acceptable)

Submit the complete application through the NFP website no later than the deadline of March 31, 2023. (NOTE: Applications can only be submitted via the website.)

 

Scholarship Recipient Requirements

The NFP requests that individuals selected to receive a scholarship uphold the following requirements.

1. Send a thank you note or video to the NFP board of trustees (c/o NFP for NFP promotional purposes) within one month after the award.

2. “Pay it forward” through a commitment to the nursing profession in the form of volunteerism and/or a financial gift to the NFP to ensure the perpetuity of the scholarship program.

3. Upon graduation, provide NFP with updated contact information.

4. On an ongoing basis, provide NFP with information about the applicant’s future accomplishments, including published articles and professional updates for use in PSNA/NFP publications and publicity.
